I am a big fan of conspiracy theories though I am not a big believer in them, really I just find it interesting to see the ideas people come up with and how they rationalize things. There are a lot of theories you can tell straight of that bat are just fiction but then there are some that are hard to disprove or prove and a small portion that turn out to be true. I am going to be posting a series of blogs discussing a range of theories and sharing my opinion on them.
The Mandela effect is a theory that either we are constantly moving through various realities or that some people seemingly at random get thrust from one reality into another. The evidence people use for this is hundreds of examples of names, logos and more that used to be different, for example looney tunes or looney toons.
People say they are completely sure that they remember it being looney toons but now seemingly it has always been tunes, personally I thought it was toons but then again I did watch it as a child.
The reason this theory is called the Mandela effect is because a huge amount of people all around the world believed Nelson Mandela died when he was in prison during the 80s and they say they can even recall hearing the news and watching the funeral, however Nelson Mandela died in 2013. As a result people think they must be in some sort of alternate reality.
For me it seems a lot more reasonable that you just remember things wrong. Let me give you a scenario; You are told to walk into a room for the first time and have a good look around, taking in the surroundings, then after a few minutes you are taken out of the room. Then you are asked to name every object in the room, the colours and position of each object. Now do you think you would be able to answer 100% accurately.
Most people would not even be able to get close to getting every detail, why? Because the brain isn't like a camera. Each time you remember something your brain has to rebuild the memory from scratch piece by piece so it will never be completely accurate. Now after not seeing a logo or hearing a phrase for months or years you could easily get it slightly wrong.
So for the Mandela effect I am definitely not a believer however I do think it is interesting that people think it is more likely that they have some how transported into an alternate reality over them just remembering things wrong although you never know.
What do you believe in this theory? Or are you a non-believer like me.
