Everything that we do on earth is as a result of an action either positive or negative, active or passive, intentionally or otherwise.
Just as it was well observed by @hpabiola in his reply to my last post "This essentially makes it difficult for conservative parents to build deep relationship with children, especially when they are grown (have earn their own voice and can say NO to Dad's directives)", I will like to look into the issue of communication as key to healthy relationship not only between spouses but also in every relationship.
Communication allows both parties to have a deep understanding of each other, and allows you to connect. In a healthy relationship with good communication, both partners: Treat each other with respect. Speak openly to one another about thoughts and feelings. Feel heard when expressing feelings.
I also agree that parents should allow their children to have a say in matters that affect them directly or otherwise. Failure to give room to this will eventually make one party to bottle up pressure and this could cause a crack in such relationship.
Husbands should not shout down their wives, friends should not either, nether should bosses tried it in their offices.
Anyone no matter how highly placed he is that shut down other peoples opinion is on his own.
UNDERSTANDING
I said earlier that communication allows both parties to have clear understanding of each other. This is really true and will prevent misunderstanding. There is a saying in Yoruba that "ti oju ba koju aala a ma to" meaning when we see it together, boundaries will be properly set.
Come to think of boundaries, its a veritable tool in relationship, it earns individuals involved mutual respect because each one will strive not to cross the boundary.
There is always a serious bonding in relationship that has understanding as a strong pillar. This is the reason why some family members are so close that it become difficult to separate them. Have consider some spouses that you can not even come in between them, its because they have come to understand themselves by setting boundaries which they so much respect and would dare not cross.
Today my heart goes out to families that are being torn apart, that had been torn apart and children from such homes.
How much I wish people will develop their relationship and enjoy mutual respect and understanding.
I hope in the nearest future to look into how relationship can be mended. I believe you can still enjoy that relationship with your partner.
Till tomorrow when we hope to dig deeper into this theme, I wish you all comfort in your relationship.
