I have really never done much concerning the succession planting or intercropping...so I decided to give it a try this year by planting the fall and winter greens below my tomatoes..
So towards the end of August, I removed all the side branches and leaves from the lower "18" of all my tomatoes which is the second photo...Doing that made it possible to have alot of planting space in the bed ..so I went ahead to plant the arugula , the chard and the spinach seedlings in between the tomato stems..
So this partially shaded kind of bed now led to a cooler environment which the greens love..
