Forgiveness is for our own personal growth and joy.. When we hold on to hurt, pain, grievances, and rage it harms us far more than it harms the offender. Forgiveness frees us to live in the present. ... Forgiveness allows us to move on without anger or contempt or seeking revenge.

Forgiveness does not mean condoning or excusing a wrong. And it doesn't minimize or justify the wrong. We can forgive the person without excusing the act. Forgiveness is not the same as reconciling. Reconciliation may follow forgiveness, but we can forgive an offender without reestablishing the relationship.

Forgiveness just means that you've made peace with the pain, and you are ready to let it go. 2. Forgiveness is not something we do for others - it's something we do for ourselves. Not forgiving someone is the equivalent of staying trapped in a jail cell of bitterness, serving time for someone else's crime.

Life is too short to hold on the negative emotions, they are exhausting. Replacing your negative emotions with the complete opposite will lead you to a happy, healthy, joyful lifestyle.

That is why forgiveness is so freeing.

Negative emotions can be described as any feeling which causes you to be miserable and sad. These emotions make you dislike yourself and others, and take away your confidence. Emotions that can become negative are hate, anger, jealousy and sadness

Positive Emotions may be considered as any feeling where there is a lack of negativity, such that no pain or discomfort is felt. Frederickson (2009) identifies the ten most common positive emotions as joy, gratitude, serenity, interest, hope, pride, amusement, inspiration, awe and love.
