A recent study came out suggesting that paper and bamboo straws might contain PFAS chemicals, they might even be more likely to contain these chemicals than plastic straws.
Since the battle against plastic straws began we have seen businesses around the world make the transition to offering paper straws in a number of settings. You might be surprised to discover that those paper or bamboo straws could contain the controversial PFAS chemicals given the way in which they were marketed as being a more environmentally-friendly product alternative.
It isn't likely that we are going to see a change back to plastic straws though and what else can come to meet this need besides paper or bamboo straws? There are others such as steel or glass to find as well. Millions of paper straws are now being used on a regular basis by companies that have made the switch. PFAS chemicals have been gaining a lot of attention in recent years because of the concern over how they breakdown in the body and environment. Researchers looked at products from dozens of different brands and they discovered that the majority of them contained the chemicals.
