MY SHADOW
My shadow accompanies me
when I need him most
Unasked and uninvited
but always welcome
my shadow is as much
a mirrored image of myself
as he is a vivid reflection
of my soul
As I gaze into the future
he is there
day or night
he is forever cast
As I glimpse into my past
his outline is as a present
as the sun amidst a sunrise
the moon amidst a moonlit sky
a father sheltering his son from all pain
yet knowing his son could survive alone
He grows as needed
when corners are taken at dusk
he is larger than life
when the sun shines on my face
he is barely seen but always felt
Like a candle in the wind
he may be swayed but will
burn
eternally
and can never be extinguished
He is who I would wish to be
if given the chance
but somehow
by striving to be more like him
I have become a better man
Confident with what I decide
content in what I choose
and happy with who I am
My shadow
who is forever present
has helped to create a man
who feels he can conquer
the world
By myself I am strong
but with him invincible
Together we can
erase stars
create dreams
and paint perfection
in the lives of others
and in the mind of
the one that counts
Accompanied by his shadow
he knows he is
never
truly
alone
