Ironically, I had a conversation today about Mondays. I said I always believed that if you were locked in a padded room with no light and only the sound of your beating heart for months on end...you would still awake and know it was a Monday! So here's my attempt at capturing that thought in a poem.

MONDAY

I look around and up and down
into dark thoughts that keep me company

I hear faint murmurs rise and fall
but it’s only my beating heart

For what?

How long has it been
doing without the things that
make me the person I am within

So full of time and nothing else

Solitary confinement
can’t define it

Nor can my freedom someday
It must be a Monday
