IN THE BASEMENT
Intrigue
under covers
and in closets
especially in the
basement
Where closed boxes
hold memories
and secrets
never to be revealed
in the light of day
Darkness and
dampness
fuse them
together in
a moldy
embrace
Years and years
pass but nothing
moves
maybe a spider
creating her
web of lies
to cover
a box of lies
Everyone lives on
taking innocent
breaths in the park
watching their children
play protected
because of what
still
lives
in the basement
