BEFORE THE COLOURS SAY GOODBYE
It occurred to me
the sun rose today
so I took the time
to count the colours
painted across the sky
Then I made a list
of things to accomplish
before the colours
say goodbye
None of which
involved hammers
or nails or vacuums
or bills
In fact
none of them
could be held
or touched
or kissed
Merely dreamed about
with a sense of
reverence
for being here
is the magic
we search for
In places
after the colours
leave us to
recall the beauty
in our mind's eye
or
better yet
to paint our own
