In recent years the film and television industry has undergone a great modernization, the technological advances have caused that we observe changes in the way of watching television or some film. From those old black and white tapes which had no sound to the wonders of a 4D movie theater and in high definition. It is in this sea of
innovations where we can see more changes and improvements in the audiovisual media that a question arises. Has the introduction of so many changes served as a screen to cover the lack of innovation in the medium that so favor them?
For several years now I have noticed the incredible repetitiveness that we observe almost daily in the cinema and the television, sometimes I find curious the continuous repetition of ideas that show the audiovisual means, from the continuous use of a joke seen a thousand and one times in each television program to the well-known telenovela story we see in Sunday movies. From there we get the classic story of the busy father to whom work has alienated him from his family, the typical comedy of the family that goes on vacation and everything goes wrong, not forgetting the dramas of teenagers misunderstood by their parents which we observe constantly in the TV.
To this list of elements we can add the eternal tributes to the classic films that no doubt marked the epoch in the cinema, as it is the legendary saga of "Star Wars" Who has not heard in some film or series the famous phrase of Darth Vader "I am your father"? or observed in different films a remastering of the popular scene where "The Death Star" is destroyed, I am sure that even if you are not a fan of the saga you have noticed these tributes or it may be that unknowingly you are observing the legacy of these films.
Another clear example of this unrestrained "recycling of ideas" if we can call it that we find it in the constant remakes of old films like "RoboCop", "Judge Dredd" or the Oscar winner for best film "Mad Max" we can even add the return to the big screen of films based on books or comics like the sagas of "Lord of the rings" and "Narnia" or the famous films of Marvel currently very well-known, but few know that they have a first version in the cinema.
If the return to the screens seems more an idea to revive the classics than a lack of creativity, we also find the sagas that return to the screens with some delivery as is the case of films like "Terminator", which returned to Schwarzenegger to his legendary role years later, or the last Indiana Jones movie, new releases of the aforementioned "Star Wars" which we remember had returned to the screens with a few prequels, even in the animated films as It was the return of the charming characters of "Toy Story" in the 2010
When we do not know what to invent we find the famous "prequels" that many years later seek to explain the origin of some saga, even the legendary "Star Wars" applied this resource as I mentioned. Another of the resources worth when the ideas are exhausted we find it in the old trick of turning a series into a movie or the opposite as it was "Sherlock Holmes", "Sex and the city", " Get Smart" or the animated film "Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius".
In recent years I have realized how difficult it is to find a totally original content in a film or television series, although it is true that we find marked exceptions, it is always easy to identify any reference to an old work, we find the excessive repetition of an idea or we can observe how it is to refresh an old idea with a new delivery, a prequel or a new version. Little by little it becomes more complicated to find innovation or creativity, is it that it is ending? Have we reached a point where all we have left is to look totally in the past to seek to entertain the people?
