I recently had a chance to sit down and have lunch with a very well off and successful COO. He has run operations for multiple 100 million dollar plus companies that sell products. The reason this lunch came about is I was meeting with the Fedex rep at our company and he talked about this COO that he was so impressed with and I happen to know him. The Fedex rep told me to go meeting with him and try to learn as miuch as I could.
So I reached out and offered to take him to lunch.
It was awesome. here are my 2 take aways.
First - Hire people you like to work with. I thought this was an interesting take that you do not hear to much. He focuses on people that he likes to be around when he is hiring. Sure they have to be qualifies and all that jazz but his focus after that is hiring people that he likes. He was to be able to have a good time at work.
Second - Your life is going to be an endless string of problems and challenges until the day you die.
Your life is not going to go as planned. That's just the way it is. Its also the way that it is always going to be. Its not going to get easy and the problems are not going to go away.
Expect it and be prepared for it.
So. BE A PROBLEMS SOLVER. in his words "Problems solvers get paid the big bucks and always will".
My goals for this week are going to be focused on how I can solve problems.
I got to go find some at work, in my life, and family and start fixing them. here we go.
