As I glanced at the old photographs of my wedding, my fingers stopped at one of my husband and I, newly declared Mr. and Mrs.. My surrender to him was revealed in my expression. I would go anywhere with him.
Almost four decades later, our marriage is powerfully intertwined with a love and commitment that has helped us through difficult and good times. Year after year, I renewed my commitment to go anywhere with him.
beloved though misled Israel: I remembered you, the fidelity of your youth, the love of your marriage, when you were after me. The Hebrew word translated fidelity implies maximum loyalty and commitment. At first, Israel expressed this firm devotion to the Lord, but gradually moved away.
Despite the intense feelings of the early stages of commitment, passivity can numb love, and lack of ardor can lead to infidelity. We know how important it is to fight against such stagnation in our marriages. But how is the fervor of our love relationship with God? Are we as consecrated to Him as when we first believed?
God, in his fidelity, allows his people to return (3: 14-15). Today we can renew our vows to follow him ... wherever.
