SUGAR

Sugar is a natural type sweetener that comes from different products. Thus we find the sucrose or common table sugar that is derived from sugar cane, the fructose that is contained in fruits, or the maltose found in wheat and the products made with this cereal. We also find lactose, galactose and glucose, present in everyday foods such as milk or vegetables.

The fact that sugar comes from food does not necessarily indicate that it is beneficial for our body. Consumed in excess can generate excessive caloric intake as well as various health problems, and that is that sugar contributes to our body a significant amount of energy and calories.

SWEETENERS

For its part, sweeteners, unlike sugar, do not come from food or nature, because they are manufactured chemically to sweeten the products, with no or minimal calorie intake. Among the sweeteners we find types such as sorbitol, mannitol and xylitol

These products, in addition to being used to sweeten with few calories, are also used to preserve food, to make bread and flour ferment and to maintain the freshness of certain products. They are commonly used in those dietetic presentations, suitable for diabetics or free of sugar. Despite not having a high caloric intake, being a chemical has been much talked about its possible effects on the body in the long term or if consumed in excess, there is considerable controversy about its use.
