Although generally of a 'large-mouthed and despisable character', there is little denying the man is a genius, one whom bitcoin would not exist if he had not been present.
By his own telling he was a lead on the project, and also should have controlled 800k BTC.
Recall that not 1million accounts hold 1 BTC at the time of writing.
This means that Satoshi collectively would control more bitcoin than all of the gradual and painstaking accumulation by all of the people who did not mine nor cypher-punk their way in.
This means, all of the people in short who are actually striving to adopt the technology.
In short, if Craig had come to control the amount that he believes he should have, it would have given him the power to still at this stage, 10 years on, be able to provide supply near equal to the total 'demand accrual' by those painstaking 'adopters'.
This is a ton of liquidity.
Although it might only represent about 8 out of 190+ billion, I think if this did truly hit the ledgers and eat literally every known sell order, the plummet would be on an unimaginable scale.
Recall the economic analysts who compute that if xMillion enters the market it rises by Y100million etc.
This would be the inverse of the uncalculated equation.
Relative or greater than the largest moves on the logarithmic all-time chart, and in a shorter time frame, if done as a single or similarly timed 'dump' it may literally liquidate every open order in the market.
Anyway, here is to hoping that Satoshi 'itself' doesn't come between the solution and the vision, by being a mere flawed human, an ego, not an enigma; and one capable to corrode our trust in the most base unit of our 'would be new currency' the humble (or not so humble?) Satoshi.
Let us hope that he wouldn't go so far as to plummet what we have tried to make from the whitepaper direction fit the realities of the world in an effort to pump his new contravsersial 'Satoshi'sVision'.
We can only hope that the best and most amicable agreement is reached, in that if Mr.Wright is truly proven, uhm, right, that MANY a bitter pill is swallowed, and that he is brought back into the fold, and hopefully informs the vision of the current tool that we have rather than trying to begin anew with the intent to sink a 'ship afoul of the course'.
