I can't imagine how you will feel in the buzzing streets of Lagos, with loans and no money.

To Kill a Monkey is a series about love, betrayal, responsibility, and power.

It begins with a young man — hardworking, talented, and intelligent. It is in this series that I learned that intelligence is not a measure of wealth 🤑. You can be wealthy and not be wise.

Efemini "Efe" Edewor was desperately in need of money; he is a truthful husband. However, a woman decided to lend him money in exchange for illicit intentions. He bluntly refused, and later accepted when the pressure was too much.

After getting the money, he was on his way to the hospital. He boarded a tricycle — not knowing it was filled with criminals in disguise.

At that scene, I knew that seeing those hefty men should have been a red flag for Efe. But he ignored it, and ended up getting his money hijacked.

Hmm! Efe was frustrated and asked for help. It was later proposed that he pay the bills in installments.

That aside, he met a man called Obozz-da-Bozz (Oboz), his long-time friend whom he had saved a long time ago during a chase.

They shared hands at Efe's workplace. They met when Oboz wanted to take advantage of a girl, and Efe was about to stand up against it because he clearly didn't like it.

Clearly, Oboz was into a fraudulent activity...

Oboz paid off Efe's existing debt, and this made him extremely grateful.

He and his wife, Nosa, came over to express their gratitude.

However, Efe wanted more, and decided to meet Oboz with an AI impersonation technology.

He proposed with an example: like, if you have a friend call you with the same voice, face, and body — would you believe him or her to be fake? Oboz said yes. And that was his offer.

He had the software and the tech. They proposed a percentage, and they later agreed on a particular one after the bargain.

Hmmm! To me, he just signed his death warrant.

After Oboz became rich, he organized a birthday party where he was threatened by a rival, Teacher.

He soon became more protective of his family, leading to more and more investigation into the root of the threat.

He soon discovered that the rival was supposed to be paid a percentage of every dirty job that Oboz and his crew pulled. Oboz clearly disagreed, and this led to the killing of Teacher's family by Oboz's men.

As a form of revenge, Teacher's group became more enraged, introducing into Oboz's path a lady, Ms. Sparkles (Amanda), whom Oboz clearly disapproved of.

Oboz is a lousy and arrogant man who fought with this lady. However, Efe soon got in touch with her, and she became his side chick.

The lady was clearly in the game, and Efe knew nothing about it.

Efe thought that by meeting Teacher's group and winning their favour by showing them kindness, he could outsmart them. However, he got into more trouble than he could control.

He later ended up being played in his own game.

Later on, he killed Oboz by turning his men against him. Efe, who was once innocent, now had the blood of many on his hands.

A video of Efe killing Oboz was later sent to court, and the lawyer didn't defend him because she was only playing Teacher's game.

Oboz's properties were confiscated, and his wife, Idia, came back to get the other properties that weren't confiscated.

Before his arrest, he caught his wife cheating. Really painful...

The story tells us that we should not involve ourselves in crime for the sake of those we love, because when it gets out of hand, they won't consider it a favour.

The story also tells us that we should not be a person who betrays.

The series was created, written, and directed by Kemi Adetiba.
