In life people come and go, some stay forever and others a short while.
Some we miss and some we curse the day we met.
Some hurt us, leave lifetime scars and leave us doubting the genuineness of human hearts and others heal us, leave life long memories and show us that light and love still lives in the heart of humans.

I met a good one.

Yesterday was the birthday of a very wonderful friend of mine. More like a big brother. I call him Big friend. I want to share a bit more about him here on Hive, please read on.

How We Met

In the year 2018, I went to register for the JAMB examination at Gestric, a CBT registration centre in my hometown. The crowd was massive as usual and I didn't know where to start. I approached this young man and asked a few questions which he answered accordingly. It turned out that he was part of the registration team.

There and then I figured the money I had on me wouldn't be enough to go through the entire registration process as I was informed by my friend before going there.
If you are a Nigerian, you can understand how it's hard to get to the point where you could just get registered and then you go back without completing the registration process. It means you'll have to join the queue again the next day and I didn't want to do that.
So I and this stranger had an agreement that he'll help me register and I'll pay him the balance the next day. I gave him my contact, my Facebook username, anything to assure him I won't run away 馃榿 and he helped me.

The next day, I went back to give him the money but I couldn't gain access into the building because my name was not on the list of people who wanted to register anymore. He too couldn't come down to meet me as he was working. We ended up splitting the money, I sent him airtime and took the balance. This was like our first money heist.馃槀

Later on I asked him why he helped me, he said he wanted to study the same course I applied for but he couldn't make it so he just felt he should assist another person who's aspiring to study his one time dream course.
I was very short back then and tiny. No one really believes my age when I tell them so the young man named me "small friend" and I called him Big Friend till date.

We kept in touch since then and got to know each other better. I didn't make it into the university that year so the next year he helped me register again. He has always helped.

The world isn't so much of a trustable and safe place anymore. It's hard to really see people who genuinely help the opposite gender and not want to get benefits of some kind but I'm glad they've been an exception with this soul.
I can always share life troubles and know I'll get good counsel.

On Yesterday's Birthday
I always forget his birthday and he doesn't forget mine. He may not remember the exact date but once it's my birth month he reminds me of it. I usually don't forget birthdays but his own doesn't just stay in my brain.馃槀 Last year, I remembered almost at the end of the day because I went to my Facebook page. I felt bad so this year I decided to go out of my way and do a little something for once.

The Birthday Surprise

Last year I specifically told him I wanted a birthday cake because I've never had one since I was born. He told me he's never had one too so I promised in my heart that I'll give him his first ever birthday cake. I didn't tell him.

Few months ago, he posted a picture on WhatsApp. They were cupcakes decorated with the Binance Logo. He mentioned that that's the kind of cake he'd like to eat so I took a screenshot of it.
Next, I reached out to mhizerbee@mhizerbee who's a baker. I asked her about the sizes of her cakes and the respective prices which she told me. None of the sizes entered my eye馃槀 I wanted something a bit big so it will reach me馃槀
I went straight to the internet and browsed about all sorts of cakes, sizes and designs. I sent her screenshots and we got talking. To be honest it wasn't easy. The price of the cake was above my budget but I had made up my mind so I said no going back. I picked a different size of cake and requested the decoration should be like the Binance logo.

I was nervous and worried about how the whole thing would go. The first time I gave him something he threw it back at me馃槀 which we actually fought about and I swore I'll never give him anything in this life again.馃槀馃槀馃槀馃槀
I was really worried. This is not my mate I'm talking about here and you know If you're going to give a big person something you sure know it has to be good. I naturally just love my gifts to be top notch.

So this our Binance cake was baked and delivered by the baker. The report I got was that he smiled and that's all I wanted. Funny enough, before the cake was delivered, he was called and informed that there's a package for him. Right after the call, he chatted me up saying he knew it was my doing and of course I feigned ignorance.馃槀

I was honestly so happy that I was able to fulfil my promise and I added to his joy yesterday. He was really happy and grateful.

With him I've learnt the importance of being focused, he's been a leader by example and I've learnt to help people without expectations. I'm very glad our paths crossed.
I pray the Lord blesses him immensely and he may live to celebrate many more years in good health.

Special thanks to mhizerbee@mhizerbee for a job well done.馃挐
