Many people know that Wednesday is New Comics day. Somewhat less known is the fact that Tuesday, in the US, is New Books day.

Weekly disclaimer: This weekly post highlights some of the books being published on any given week, usually in the science fiction and fantasy genres, both YA and books for adults. I am VERY likely to miss cool new books, so please feel free to tell me about them in the comments. Sometimes these will be books I've read a pre-publishing copy of, but most of the time, they will not. These are books I find notable, but I certainly don't read fast enough in English to be able to read all the cool books that come out every week.

July has been a non-stop train of awesome books, and the last week of the month is not exception. The top two books, especially, have long been on my wishlist. Let's get into it.

The Descent of Monsters (Tensorate #3) by JY Yang

This is the third novel in Yang's superlative Tensorate series of silkpunk novellas. You're probably either very excited to hear it's coming out, or have never heard of it. Get to the first camp!

Dreadful Company (Dr. Greta van Helsing #2) by Vivian Shaw

Shaw's debut novel, the excellent Strange Practice, introduced us to Dr. Greta Helsing, modern day descendant of the famous Van Helsing, and doctor to London's monsters. Now, Dr. Helsing is off to Paris, where there be vampires. This series has started out super fun, and I'm here for the new one.

Heart of Thorns by Bree Barton

This YA fantasy is the first in a series, and is getting mixed reviews, but the premise - witchhunter finds she may have witch powers - is interesting!

Storm-Wake by Lucy Christopher

I'm a sucker for Shakespeare retellings, and The Tempest is one of the plays most suited for that.

Sea Witch by Sarah Henning

Speaking of retellings, this is a version of The Little Mermaid where Ursula - Evie, here - is good. This is super interesting to me.

Keepers (Project Earth #2) by Brenda Cooper

This is the sequel to last year's Wilders, an environmentally conscious science fiction novel.

Arabella the Traitor of Mars (Adventures of Arabella Ashby #3) by David D. Levine

This is the third novel in Levine's adventure series that imagines a world where Britain colonized Mars in the 1600s.

Planetside by Michael Mammay

Military SF is not my jam, but adding a mystery element makes it instantly more interesting, and the reviews have been stellar.

A Study in Honor by Claire O’Dell

I end this week with a novel I was unaware of before researching the July New Books posts, and which I now intend to pick up. This is a Holmes and Watson novel where both are black women, in a dystopian future following a new American civil war, and where Dr. Janet Watson is the protagonist.
