The plum tree at Castle Cannon is particularly full this year.
We've always had a fairly good crop, but this time around, it seems to be exceptional. I'm wondering if it had anything to do with the tree surgeon cutting it back a few years ago.
We used to have two plum trees, but the one at the top of the grounds of Castle Cannon keeled over. I suspect it was a combination of poor root depth, the tree being too tall (Apparently, that's a thing?) and the weight of the plums.
It's a shame because the fruit is delicious, and we like plums, but the truth of the matter is that they'll all end up in the bin because a punnet of plums is not quite the same as half a tonne! 🤣
A few people have suggested these fruit pickers who'll come and take all your fruit away to turn into jam or wine etc., but we don't seem to have any round where I live, and I'm not sure I fancy strangers traipsing the grounds of the estate anyway.
