It must be Emotional Baggage Day today?

I took Charlie up the park for his 7 am walk. We've not been up there for over a week as it has been too muddy. I'd literally just got inside and loosed Charlie off the lead when a woman I know started to tell me all the problems at work she was having. After five minutes of hearing how she had been reprimanded and that she was worried about losing her job, I managed to extricate myself and continue walking Charlie.

"Hello there." I said to an old guy who I knew had lost his wife to cancer a few months ago. "How are you doing? Not seen you for a couple of months." me and my big gob! Couldn't I have just done the normal British thing? Nodded and moved on? "Not very good," he replied. "I'm having a problem with the neighbour from hell....." he then went on to explain that the woman next door has kids that are not hers who keep climbing into his garden. She keeps denying it even though he's shown her the camera images, and now he's worried she's going to accuse him of touching them. Great! Now I'm going to worry about someone I don't even know! I don't even know his name for Pete's sake!

A bit further along, I bumped into two of the regulars I know: "Hi Dave (That's not his real name), how are you doing this morning?" OMG! Is there no end to this? "Not too good." He said. "I was at the hospital yesterday........" Dave proceeded to give me a blow by blow account of the medical procedure he underwent and how "It's knocked me sideways, and I don't feel too good, to be honest." wondering if there was any likelihood of him keeling over in front of me, I beat a hasty retreat.

As Charlie nearly made it out of the park, John was coming towards us: "Can't stop." I said, "Running a bit late, I'm afraid." Charlie and I legged it down the road before anybody else could pile their gloom and doom on us. It's all very well this worrying about other peoples mental well-being mines torn to shreds.
