As many of you will be aware, along with many things, the new Xbox X is in short supply due to COVID. Like most people, I'm resigned to waiting till around Christmas time or even into next year 2022, when some normality should return.
On Saturday, I went to town with my daughter, and we went into a well known UK computer/gaming retailer. While looking at the games, my daughter asked the typical Goth looking assistant: "You don't happen to have the new Xbox X do you?" To my surprise, the guy who probably calls himself Theerren (Dungeons & Dragons) in his downtime said that he was, in fact, expecting six on the delivery that was due that very morning. My daughter, quick as a flash, said, "Can you put one to one side for us? The Goth explained that he was not allowed to do that sort of thing, and he was not allowed to take mobile phone numbers either. "OK, we'll come back between 10 am, and 11 am then." my daughter said. We went for a walk down the town, mainly to kill some time, and an hour later arrived back like a pair of desperate puppies hoping for a treat. "We've not had anything yet. Sometimes they don't even come on a Saturday." said the Goth. We waited, and waited, and waited but still no sign of the elusive delivery. "Look, I shouldn't do this, but write your name on this bit of paper. They'll definitely be here Monday. I'll put one to one side for you, but you'll have to get a little after 10 am, said the Goth.
Sunday was fathers day, and although my daughters were taking me out for a meal, I decided to nip to the town on the off chance that Theerren the Goth had taken delivery of the golden six and decided to put one aside ready for Monday. As I walked into the shop, I realised Theerren was not there and in his place was a bleach blond. Being careful not to drop Theerren the Goth in it, I said: "Hi there, have you got any Xbox X available?" apparently she did not. She picked up the delivery notes for Saturday and explained that there were none delivered. "Ah, OK. The guy I spoke to a guy yesterday who said you would definitely be having some on Monday. I'll pop back then. She, too quickly for my liking, responded: "Oh, we don't always get a delivery Monday. It all depends if they have enough to make it worthwhile coming.WHAT? I mean, seriously, WHAT? Therrien said they were having a delivery on Saturday. I mean, he even knew they were expecting six units; otherwise, why would he say he was getting six? He'd just say they were having a delivery but didn't know what was on it.
Now I'm undecided what to do. I don't really want to drive down the town only to be told that they haven't had a delivery yet again. If truth be told, I wish we'd never asked about them,, and I'd have continued waiting till next year.
