So, before we start, this post is not in chronological order. I really should have posted this before I posted We never made it! oh well, bite me.
The wife and I started a bit of a tradition when we visit Lynmouth. The first night, we visit the fish and chip shop on the seafront, sit on the harbour wall, and eat fresh fish. Sadly it was raining when we came down to the harbour on our first night, so instead, we went to The Ancient Mariner because they had a canopy outside and had what the wife described as "The best burger I've ever had!" to be fair, it was a very meaty steak burger. In contrast, Charlie had a sausage. In fact, Charlie spent most of the time eating sausages. 馃ぃ
This first picture was taken outside The Rising Sun pub looking back up the valley (Watersmeet is up there somewhere?). You can see the [river] water that flows down off the cliffs into the sea.
As you can see, Charlie does like a good pint of bitter while the wife enjoys a nice elderflower cider. Fortunately, my controversial umbrella, next to Charlie, is furled up. I bought it a few years ago in South Devon when we got caught in the rain. It's covered in fox hunting scenes! Not really acceptable these days, no wonder it was cheap.
We didn't get to go inside the Rising Sun. As I entered, a guy said: "Please wait outside!" rather curtly if you ask me. It would seem his system of serving you is that he comes to the table, takes your order, and returns with your drink. I'll be so glad when all this COVID malarky ends because I'm convinced lots of people are just using it as an excuse to be nob heads.
