So I'm an ESET Anti-Virus Silver Partner. Last week they sent me a spreadsheet of around thirty customers who were oversubscribed.
Now there's a multitude of ways this could have happened; it could be they had a replacement machine and didn't remove the ESET from the old PC. We could have supplied a computer and installed ESET without checking if the customer had bought it. The customer may well have downloaded it and used their license key. At the end of the day, you would have thought it was all pretty much straightforward and in most cases, we're not talking a great deal of money either; most of them average around £30 - £40. What an utter nightmare it's been! One customer had me on the phone for twenty minutes writhing like a snake over £13.20 THIRTEEN POUND TWENTY! "But I don't understand; how can I be over?" the latest one is a company with forty-five licenses, but they are updating against forty-nine, thus making them four licenses over. Bringing them into line is a simple matter of paying £78.00 for four licenses, but oh know, let's argue the toss. In my original email, it stated, in red:
Pffft! I needn't have bothered. The vast majority have all asked: "Can you tell me what machine..........?" and this customer is no different, although I'm beginning to question either mine or his sanity. I asked one of my engineers to log on to their router and work out how many servers and PCs were logged on. I didn't have to wait long, and the answer came back:
8 x Servers
47 x Computers
Total 55
Now ESET has a thing called a 'Bundle' license whereby you can bolt on ESET File Security to the Endpoint Protect License. I'm not keen on it and prefer to sell separate File Security for two reasons.
Having explained all this to him, you guessed it: "So do you know what these ten are?" Aaarrrggghhh NO, I DON'T.
I wish I'd never started this.
