Todays piece I wrote fairly recently. It was kind of an epiphany moment where the completion of this started a chain of events that led to a total change in how I pursued success. It is a big part of why I made the decision to leave my fairly decent paying blue collar job and pursue a different means of supporting myself and our family. I wrote this while at work, one line at a time while interrupted by the constant needs of the "machine queen" described herein. A team of 4-6 people was needed to staff the equipment in that particular factory. I left that job fairly soon after and have made big steps to be self sufficient and self employed rather than continue to buy into the conventional idea of a job and success. My wife is in agreement and we are all pursuing happiness and stability and self sufficiency now instead of subjecting ourselves to the rat race. This is supposed to be a musical piece rather than a spoken word poem but I haven't gotten to that part just yet!
Another day working on the line,
production machines taking up my time
blinking as they devour and spit
out wasteful trash just to make a profit
consuming every available resource
human souls for the second course
turn the people into robots
its my job man like it or not!
Feed the machine
Forever hungry
endless production
making money
keep on working
don't let it stop
12 hour shifts
until you drop!
Time to go home feeling like I'm dead
clouds of exhaustion that fill my head
time to rest man, get some sleep
a few hours later beep beep beep beep
alarms going off its time to get up
quick make the coffee get it in my cup
drink it on down as I'm out the door
no time to stop gotta work some more
Assembly line blues, I've got em bad
starting to lose whatever soul I had
Assembly line blues, one with the machine
can't escape it even in my dreams.
Dark outside I never see the light
cos it doesn't really matter if its day or night
the machine's still running and its gotta be fed
bereft of emotion human thats have fled
one purpose left: Feed the machine
see to every need, keep it nice and clean
mechanistic thoughts taking over my brain
at the end of each shift we are one and the same
Feed the machine
forever hungry
endless production
making money
keep on working
don't let it stop
12 hour shifts
until you drop
The mechanical queen of a human hive
worker drones hustling to keep it alive
sewing the seeds for more of its kind
demand increases, build another line
a brand new queen to increase the supply
and a team of zombie workers just to help it survive
cycle wont stop till the end of days
and every human beings a mechanical slave
Assembly line blues, stuck in a rut
treating this robot like its King Tut
Assembly line blues, pampered and spoiled
while humans are subjected to labor and toil
Caught up in the need to produce
feeling my humanity begin to reduce
mind morphing into a single process
doing anything machine queen requests
tells me what she needs with flashing lights
yells at me, klaxons sounding with delight
as the press begins to pound and it gets up to speed
production continues to satisfy greed
Feed the machine
forever hungry
endless production
making money
keep on working
don't let it stop
12 hour shifts
until you drop
one day it wont be only my mind
go into a factory and there you will find
a mechanistic beast of human origin
tending to my queens every minor whim
metamorphosis complete, you'll see a robot
never need to sleep just doing its job
no more shifts pure profit wont need to be paid
humanity long gone along with my rage
