Friends, today I’d like to share a new drawing of mine dedicated to one of the lovely cards from the game Rising Star—specifically, a guitar. It belongs to an Epic card: the E298 JSI99I. As you can see, it’s a stunning gold electric guitar. In this post, I’ll walk you through the step-by-step process of creating the drawing. To start, I used Adobe Illustrator to create the card's inner frame. As I mentioned a few days ago, I’m returning to this frame style because it’s more minimalist, allowing me to focus better on the instrument itself. That’s why I’m currently sticking to just the inner frame. However, if you preferred the previous style, feel free to let me know in the comments, and I’d be happy to switch back to the design that features the full card layout. It’s up to you. Here is how the frame turned out:
After finishing the frame, I began drawing the guitar's body inside it. I started with the neck—the longest part of the guitar. Musically, it’s used to hold the instrument while allowing you to play notes in conjunction with the central area. Next, I drew the lower body of the guitar, attached to the neck. This body shape is characteristic of 80s rock guitars; it immediately brought several music videos to mind.
Once those parts were done, I moved on to the upper section of the neck: the headstock, complete with its five tuning pegs. The headstock has a unique shape compared to others I’ve drawn here; it features a split-tip design that looks really nice.
Now, it’s time to add the color. First, I painted the outer background a vibrant yellow, and the inner frame a bold purple to evoke the color of "Epic" rarity cards, which feature a frame in that shade. Next, I used various shades of blue for the inner background, and finally, I painted the guitar using different gold and gray tones. In the last step, I added the frets and strings. In the following photos, you can see the order in which I did it.
