There's major flooding in my town right now, and houses are being evacuated. I went down and helped fill sandbags for a couple hours, and the very best part was we got to see the dump truck come and dump more sand!
The sad thing is there was no real coordinated preparedness for this even though they knew it was going to be a big flood year, but somehow we are filling sandbags as the water is coming up to houses. This happened in 2011 too. The volunteers who are coordinating this sand effort are AMAZING because this literally would not happen without them. A whole neighborhood is now an evacuation area and the water is going so fast there that no one can go near it because it is hazardous. The next homes that are in the path of the rising waters are the ones we were trying to help. I feel so bad for the people in the way of this.
Anyway, the upside is I got a good workout, and got to see this epic truck because who doesnt love dumptrucks??? And at the end when the door slammed it was SO LOUD but the camera didnt really capture that.
And, aside from that, I also taught English lessons and other coaching all day long so all told I worked about 12 hours today and I am BEAT. If you are interested in learning English hit me up!
Speaking of English,
Dumptruck is a set phrase. You stress the word DUMP! :)
