Hello There

I am back again here with my foodie story. This time I will pick a snack topic, not a heavy meal for lunch nor dinner. I think I have posted too many meals, or maybe not that many as many will come soon lol.

So Today is Roti Bakar, or in English it is called as TOAST. A grilled bread or whatever you call it. I believe most people around the globe will take a Toast as a breakfast dish. However in Indonesia, it will be different. Most people here will take Roti Bakar or Toast as a snack in night time, as a street food comforting food/snack lol.

Our Roti Bakar, I prefer to call it Roti Bakar so people won't get mix up with what they believe as a Toast, comes as a grilled sandwich. They are served as sandwiches with some feeling, and most of them are mixed filling, with some ingredients. Most of them are sweets, such as Chocolate, Nutela, Jam sand many more although a small group of people will go for savory variants.

I will skip the mambo jambo history class, and get into what my Roti Bakar is...

So some weeks ago I took a night walk just to ease my thought. I have been in busy weeks with a lot of pressure, So I need to have some ways to relief my pressure and walking or taking a stroll is one of those ways.

In the middle of my stroll, I saw a small food cart running by a woman. The cart was a lot smaller than the others, so that picked my interest on it and chose to check what she sold there.

She sold Roti Bakar and I checked her brand then I found out that it was pretty popular around the neighborhood. So I decided to try it.

The pricing was simple, 25.000 rupiah for non standard, and 20.000 rupiah for a standard one. The standard here consisted of two flavor, and they got separated in the bread.

For your reference, 25.000 rupiah is around 1.5 USD. It's a number for my Daily Meal Saga too lol.

Her food cart was clean and neat, it was different than other food carts which most of them were messy even they tried to keep their cards clean. Maybe most of the food cart sellers are male and they can not work neat and organized lol

And that was my bread, grilled on hot pan. It was a bit sad seeing some food cart that was quite famous, having no customers at all other than me. Maybe I came in wrong time, but I was sure that buying that bread was a good decision as I liked to support small sellers ha ha ha.

This was the box she gave me and my bread was inside. I could say the packaging was good, better than most of Roti Bakar sellers.

So this was how my Roti bakar looked like. It was a good one, she did not overburn the bread and she did not give too much butter or margarine too. Those two are common mistake by Roti Bakar Sellers, as they sometime did not pay attention on what they are doing by overcook it or keep giving butter and make the inside of the bread wet.

I did not expect the taste to be great as it was only for 20.000 rupiah or 1.3 USD. I could only say it fulfilled my expectation and I might one day revisit the cart to get another one. I hope they could last longer because this kind of food doesn't sell well recently as younger generation prefer more expensive bread and somehow their budget for snacks are very huge lol.
