Hello, friends and foodie fellows!
Do you celebrate the new year? What did you have for your lunch on the January 1st? Could you guess what we had from my article picture? A bit clue, live in Jakarta, the capital city of my country, Indonesia. Could you guess now?
If don’t, you better read my today’s article so you won’t be that curious anymore…
On the January 1st, Mom and I went to one of old legendary Indonesian Chinese Food restaurant, Akoen, in one of their branch at Suryo street, South Jakarta. For moslem friends, I invite you to try the dishes here cause they sell halal food, don’t worry cause no pork and lard here.
Here how the restaurant looked from the outside,
It looked like ordinary house but with their restaurant brand on the top.
They put a Christmas tree near their entry, oh no, our favorite corner seats were full. Ok then..
We should try another table. Here they had the plastic partition to separate between each table. The dining area they had quite large, clean and neat.
A unique fried chips corner they had.. here you could choose any chips you want. Behind it was their bar, where they prepared drinks for the customers.
Here they sold many kind of Indonesian Chinese Dishes.. You could choose between noodle, beehon, kwetiau, even glass noodle which was fried, specially fried, cooked with seafood, shrimp, squid, beef, with soup or even with vegetables. They also had fried rice in many kind of toppings, some rice packages, chicken dishes, fuyunghai..
You also could choose the fish dishes, shrimp, squid, or vegetables like water spinach, paklay, broccoli, beansprouts and others. They also had the beef dishes here, capcay, claypot tofu and some kind of soup.
They also still had some chicken noodle/beehon/kwetiau with or without meatballs and dumplings, chicken or fish porridge, even pempek, meatballs, and steamed rice too.
Their menu book was simple, even it didn’t have any picture. But don’t underestimate their dishes, I recommend some of their menus like capcay, beef stirred with petai, mun tofu, beef with soure vegetables, fried glass noodle, sour and sweet gurame (carp) fish, and also fried noodle. Maybe some of their super tasty still hidden cause I haven’t tried them yet…
Here how our lunch that day..
It actually fried capcay and also beef stirred with pete (stinked beans) and of course we also had two portions of rice. What we ordered actually were two of their best dishes here (in our version of course) and also they looked so yummy, right?
Their capcay tasted savory, and it really rich in the toppings. They had many kind of vegetables here like broccoli, carrot, young corn and other vegetables. And it also had meat like chicken, chicken liver, shrimp, meatballs and also fishballs. So yummy! You must try this capcay when you come here..
Sliced beef tasted so good in sweet and savory plus it cooked with fresh young petai which were crunchy and fresh, made it too good to be true :9. So yummy cause it blended perfectly also with the big red chilli and onion to bring a bit spicy flavour there too, another must try menu that I recommend you. But be careful with the stinky beans if you don't like it but i tell you the truth that they tasted delicious. Well actually I don’t know do you guys from other countries in South East Asia also have these petai (stinky beans) too?
If you are here don’t forget to try their cucumber pickle.. it tasted sweet and crunchy, mom loves it much! They also had their authentic spicy chilli paste here, but we didn’t have it that day.
For our lunch we paid 134,200 IDR or around 9.4 USD, no service charge here, only tax included. And we think the price is fair cause they had tasty food in large portion, better to come here with some friends or families so you could have the opportunity to try their other tasty dishes.
So when will you come here and try our authentic Indonesian Chinese menu?
Thanks for reading my article, hope you enjoy it and stay tune for more CRAFT things from me!
