Hello, friends especially foodies!
Recently I had dinner with my family. The dinner took place in an Authentic Papua Restaurant, named Yougwa Danau Sentani or if it is translated it would become Yougwa Sentani Lake. For your information, Sentani Lake is a beautiful lake which was located in Jayapura, a city in Papua. It is an incredible lake which worth to be visited, friends! By the way the restaurant which we visited still located in my city Jakarta, the exact place was in Batu Ceper street, Center Jakarta.
Enough with name of the restaurant, I will try to share a bit about the dining area of the restaurant. The dining area there was quite large with authentic Papua ornaments around.
As you could see in a corner of the room they had the net there, and the other side they also had some Asmat made ornaments hung on their ceiling. Asmat is the name of the original tribe from Papua. They produced some crafts from wood like you could see in one corner of the dining area, yes it is also there right below the plates on one of their wall.
Anyway although it wasn’t my first time there but I still have never shared with you all about this restaurant so this is a new review for this restaurant.
There although they claimed themselves as the Papua-Manado specialist, they also sold many other menus.
The menu that they offered were so many:
• They had their authentic snack like Roa chilli fried banana, corn fritter, fried cassava, balapis, green bolu, lontar, sentani fried tofu (which they made with milk), springroll, panada and chili salt crispy tofu.
• They of course also sold Papeda, authentic Papua sago porridge which usually eaten with the sour soup fish.
• They also offered barapen, some tubers which burned on the stone, so unique..
• Besides them, they also offered some crab dishes such as roasted crab, salted fish crab, oyster sauce crab, black pepper crab, Padangnese sauce crab, steamed crab, Singapore sauce crab, Garlic steamed crab and Garlic butter crab. For the soka crab (small crabs) they had Crispy soka and Salted egg soka.
• They also sold lobster in Chilli Salt, Padangnese sauce, Papua fried or Garlic steamed.
• They offered two kind of shrimps, gala or vaname which they offered in different style of dishes. For the gala shrimp they only offered in salted egg, honey roasted, Padangnese sauce, Butter sauce and Singapore sauce.. While for the Vaname shrimp they offered in more variants of dishes.
• For the shell they had four kind of it and they offered them in different style of dishes.
• They also had squid menus and chicken menus. For the squid they cooked it in crispy, salted egg, black pepper, salt pepper, Padangnese sauce, Butter sauce, Singapore sauce, roasted and Papua fried style. While for the chicken, they had in Woku, Rice Fried, Chilli Salt, Roasted in bamboo and Fried with garlic.
• For the fish they had some choices of fish you could choose like cork fish from Papua, snapper, rabbitfish, pompano, parrot fish, gourami fish, grouper, and pomfret. They could be cooked in many many dishes you could choose in their menu. One of they offered was in Sour and sweet sauce like we ordered.
Because of the menu they offered were so many, I am sorry that I only took pictures some of them below.
Oh yes before I told you about all the menus we ordered that day, let me tell you about their authentic chilli paste which always they served to us as their customers for free. The first chilli paste was their red chilli paste.
It made from fresh chilli and tomato. They chose only the perfect fresh condition of chilli and tomato to make it. They cooked the chilli and tomato for this style of chilli paste so it was in cooked condition. It had sweet, spicy and savory flavour. The texture of it was quite smooth and as you could see it had orange reddish color. It was commonly find in my country but there they made it authentic Papua.
Next, the second kind of chilli paste. But it actually wasn’t paste at all. It was chopped cucumber, tomato, chilli, and red shallot.
It had kind of sour spicy flavour. It also freshly made and called dabu-dabu. It is a kind of authentic chilli paste from Manado.
After around 15-20 minutes of waiting, a waitress delivered our dishes to our table. What we ordered that day were Sour and sweet Gourami, Seafood Sapo Tofu, Salted Egg Bitter Gourd (authentic and couldn’t be found anywhere), and Shrimp paste stirred water spinach.
Now let me tell you one by one of the taste and flavour of them one by one..
First from the fish we ordered SOUR AND SWEET GOURAMI
The gourami they presented was fresh. I could smell and taste it well from the meat. They made good fillets from the fish so that the meat could be separated well with the bones. The taste of the fish itself was savory while the sauce they put it in brought the sweet and sour flavour to the fish. Plus they cooked the sauce with pineapple, paprika and onion. The taste of it was perfect, as I never found any better sour and sweet gourami like this before and I also haven’t found the one that was more delicious than it, so I totally recommend this menu if you come to this restaurant. I am sure that it would also be the best sour and sweet gourami you could find!
The other menu we had that day SEAFOOD SAPO TOFU
The sapo tofu they offered colored to dark but the taste of it was still delicious. It had sweet and savory flavour with many ingredients like fried Japanese tofu, shrimp, squid, mushroom, carrot and some vegetables. It was tasty even I could say it was just so so and nothing special with this menu, cause you could find it anywhere in Indonesian Chinese Food Restaurant plus nothing special with the taste.
I still had their special menu SALTED EGG BITTER GOURD
You would never found this menu in any other restaurant. It was one of their specialty. They somehow fried the bitter gourd with the crunchy but soft flour, then cooked it with the salted egg. Some sliced chilli served with it too. The bitter gourd they served was so tasty cause somehow they could remove the bitter flavour from it and instead they cooked it with salted egg so that it had tasty savory and sweet flavour. The salted egg outside melted in your mouth and it was so tasty, wrapped the fried bitter gourd so damn well. I give my thumbs up for this menu, I also recommended this menu to you if you one day visit this restaurant.
The last menu we had that day SHRIMP PASTE STIRRED WATER SPINACH
The water spinach they served were long, they didn’t cut it at all. Although the taste of it was quite tasty in savory, sweet with a bit spicy flavour but in order didn’t want to get choked of this veggie so we didn’t finished it that day. I don’t recommend this menu for you though, cause it was not the best I ever had for this kinda menu and also you would choked by the spinach if you didn’t chew it correctly.
Here how my plate looked with those dishes around...
Psst i added the chilli paste to complete a bit spicy flavour to my dinner..
Anyway I recommend you to come to this restaurant to enjoy their special and tasty food too!
