When we were planning our wedding, Gladys and I decided that we are going to spend our honeymoon in Baler, Aurora. Unlike her, I have never been there but from her stories, I'm pretty sure I will enjoy the place so much.
We took a bus from Cubao to Cabanatuan, and from Cabanatuan to Baler. There are direct trips from Cubao to Baler but it leaves the terminal at 2 am, if I remember it right. To maximize our time and avoid waiting that long doing nothing, we decided to cut our trip into two.
We started traveling from 8 am from Cubao, reaching Cabanatuan at lunchtime. We boarded another bus to Baler that leaves at 2 pm. The travel was smooth and refreshing to the eyes since Central Luzon is considered the rice granary of the country. Seeing luscious green fields is total eye candy!
We reached Sabang Beach, Baler at almost 6 pm and immediately looked for a place to check in. Though it was a long weekend/holiday when we were there, we were fortunate that the place was not too crowded. Thanks to the rainy season, tourists must have something else to do than surfing.
For our first night, we checked in at Smart Beach House, a beachfront hotel along Sabang Beach. I love the fact that I am facing the Pacific Ocean in the comfort of our room!
Since it was almost dark when we checked in, we no longer have time to dip into the sea. We scouted the area instead and looked for a place to have our dinner. We chose the Hungry Surfer. We were surprised by the huge amount of their servings! Their meals are intended for hungry surfers, indeed!
The following day, we woke up early and made sure we will greet the waters with excitement. We sauntered along the shore, took a lot of pictures and videos, and enjoyed ourselves very much!
Sabang Beach is a long stretch of beach frequented by local and foreign surfers. You will not miss the local surfing instructors offering their service to swimmers. We did not try surfing, first because we are a bit conscious of other swimmers, and second, we wanted to enjoy our time to ourselves with no one around us. Dipping in the sea and enjoying the waves is fun enough for us!
One afternoon, we walked a few hundred meters along Sabang beach because we craved vegetables. Almost all restaurants and food joints are serving meat-based food and we thought it will benefit us if we'll have veggies. We were delighted to see a busy street food lane where locals flock for refreshments. After a few sticks of street food, we tried Taste Buddz, and they serve chop suey - again, a large portion we had difficulty finishing.
This honeymoon trip is one for the books!
