This week the community columnist @holos-lotus
@damarysvibra brings us a new initiative with the theme **A good conversation**, which invites us to reflect on how good a conversationalist we can be and if we have the ability to engage in a healthy conversation with others.
Establishing a good conversation is not easy, no matter how rewarding it may be, there are those who confuse dialogue with the monopolization of a topic and even confuse it with the imposition of ideas and ways of thinking, this makes it difficult to establish a true interaction and communication between two or more people. For a healthy conversation to take place, one must be open to give and receive at all times, in a safe place, since in this process it is likely that emotions and feelings will be exchanged, as well as enriching and valuable data, being this an appropriate environment to create and offer trust.
Do you consider yourself a conversationalist?
Enjoying a good conversation is a pleasure, every time I have the opportunity to participate in a get-together I give myself completely to share and fully receive the ideas, thoughts and feelings that are exchanged there, it is an opportunity to obtain a range of new knowledge and insights, in addition to providing the opportunity to have a better understanding of the other and at the same time of myself, because during the development of this process I try to be attentive to what the person tells me and how he expresses himself to understand his point of view in the conversation we have.
In order to achieve a balanced dynamic, I try to be the best possible listener, because I make an effort to listen carefully to what I am told, because sometimes I am tempted to interrupt the other person in the middle of an idea to express my own, and sometimes I even incur in a bad habit of completing the final sentence that the speaker should say, indicating that I was listening to answer and was not fully attentive to what he was saying, slips with which I am working to stop doing them.
What do you value most in a person you enjoy talking to?
The people with whom I like to talk are those who do not monopolize the act of communication, who allow me to express myself without judgment or criticism of a point of view that I can express, and in turn transmit their way of thinking with respect, letting me know their position on the subject being discussed even when different positions may arise during the meeting.
What benefits do you find in your conversations with others?
During and after having established a good conversation, I have come to experience serenity and calmness, which benefits my mind, as well as having a feeling of lightness in my body if in the process of the conversation I had the opportunity to express my feelings and emotions, being able to get all that burden out, it frees me from emotional stress, these are some of the benefits I get in this process.
What do you think you bring to them?
Now, what I perceive that I bring to a dialogue is empathy, being an active listener, that is, listening without giving my opinion and giving advice, if I am not asked for it, I give freedom for the person to express their feelings, refraining from making a judgment or criticism of what they say, even if I do not share their point of view or I do not like their opinion.
