I made some mixed media art pieces for an art show I had in Seattle a while ago. Here is one of the pieces. They all had a photography element and also a painting element. They were printed on canvas and then I painted over the top of each image. This particular image was photographed in Seattle on the viaduct. I overlaid some thick paint pen drawing and also stencil spray paint work over the canvas.

The layers to this art piece were created through a few different mediums. The base is the photograph. Then there was a layer of spray painted stencil work done from a stencil that was raised off of the art piece so that the lines and edges blurred at varying amounts. Then there was the hand drawn paint pen. The overall effect is very cold in color and somewhat unclear in the graphics overlaid. They appear to be simple representations of dark clouds or just strange geometric patterns overlaid on the image itself. It has always looked to me like the graphics on the image are just prints on a windshield that the photo picked up, but was so close to the camera that it looks blurred.

I think I like the closeups more than the actual full art piece. There is something about the abstract patterns and the images taken out of context that has some graphic qualities that the overall image doesn't have. The last closeup in particular is interesting to me because it has some recognizable elements, but it's primarily an obscured view with the graphic patterns dominating the image.

Hope you liked this piece. Would love to know your thoughts.

Ciao for now, Steemians.
