I really enjoy searching for different textures and blending them together, experimenting with different results using different colours, and changing their colours. Not only do I use different blending modes between the images, but I also apply filters and vary the positions within the layers, thereby creating different shapes and forms.

This time, I wanted to try mixing textures such as old, crumpled paper, which I love, with watercolours of various colours and shapes, as well as splashes and splatters, playing around a bit with the colours to transform an old, ochre-coloured piece of paper into something with striking colours. I always enjoy working with female faces, because there’s always a bit of me in the designs. In this case, I tried to find images of the same model but in different poses, as if in different moods; one looks sad, whilst the other seems to be moving on from what has happened. They can also be seen as different stages in the same person’s life, and the flowers represent the positive outlook that always brings hope, cherry blossoms, which are an icon in some cultures.

Me gusta mucho buscar texturas varias y entremezclarlas, probar distintos resultados con distintos colores, cambiarles el color. No sólo usar distintas fusiones entre las imágenes sino también filtros y dentro de las capas ir variando en las posiciones, obteniendo así figuras y formas diferentes.

En esta ocasión quería probar la mezcla de texturas como papeles antiguos y arrugados, cosa que me encanta, junto con acuarelas de diversos colores y formas, manchas o salpicaduras, jugar un poco con los colores cambiándolos para volver un papel viejo y ocre en algo que tuviera colores llamativos. Siempre me gusta trabajar con rostros femeninos, porque siempre hay algo de mi en los diseños y en este caso traté de buscar imágenes de la misma modelo, pero en poses distintas, como estado de animo diferentes, una parece triste pero la otra resulta a salir de lo que está pasado. También pueden verse como diversas etapas de la misma persona y las flores son el puto positivo que da la esperanza siempre, flores de cerezos que en algunas culturas son un ícono.

Design process

The design was created entirely in Photoshop CS6 without the use of AI, using 12 royalty-free images spread across 30 layers.

To create the background I wanted, full of textures and watercolour hues, I used many images; it is therefore not a simple background, but a composition of eight images, some of which I duplicated and arranged in different positions, sizes and scales. In the specific case of the blue watercolour, I created many layers, each with a different colour, adjusting the hue and saturation to achieve the desired effect.

On most of the layers making up this background, I used the ‘Darken’ colour filter, as this blends the dark colours whilst leaving the light areas untouched, allowing the images to blend together more effectively. I also used ‘Spot Light’ and ‘Darken’.

Using the same blending technique as for most of the background images, I placed the image of the white flowers, splitting it in half and positioning each half at one end of the design. I then worked on the two images of the same woman in different poses; I removed the background from them and then created two layers of each. I used the ‘Darker Colour’ and ‘Lighter Colour’ blending modes, along with the ‘Dry Brush’ and ‘Added Edges’ filters, to create a painted effect but with emphasised edges. Finally, I used the image of the cherry blossoms and placed them in different parts of the design, above the women.

Proceso del diseño

El diseño está realizado completamente en el programa Photoshop CS6 sin uso de IA con 12 imágenes sin derechos de autor distribuidas en 30 capas.

Para poder crear el fondo que deseaba lleno de texturas y colores de acuarelas usé muchas imágenes, por el no es un simple fondo, sino una composición de ocho imágenes donde algunas las dupliqué, las coloqué en distintas posiciones, tamaños, escalas y en el caso puntual de la acuarela color azul, hice muchas capas, todas con colores diferentes, cambiando ese color en ajustes-tono saturación.

En la mayoría de las capas que conforman este fondo usé el filtro color más oscuro, porque es el que entremezcla los colores oscuros y deja de lado los fondos claros y así se fusionan mejor las imágenes. También usé luz focal y oscurecer.

Con la misma fusión que usé en la mayoría de las imágenes del fondo coloqué la imagen de las flores blancas, dividiéndola a la mitad y colocando cada una en un extremo del diseño. Luego trabajé las dos imágenes referidas a la misma mujer en poses distintas, les borré el fondo y luego hice dos capas de cada una, usé las fusiones de color más oscuro y color más claro y los filtros de pincel seco y bordes añadidos creando un efecto de pintura, pero con los bordes remarcados. Finalmente usé la imagen de las flores de cerezo y las coloqué en distintas partes del diseño, sobre las mujeres.
