Canon 50mm f/1.2

I have been trying to decide which new lenses would benefit me the most for my photography. I have been looking at either the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8, Canon 24-70mm f/2.8, some of the Sigma Art Lenses, or the Canon 50mm f/1.2.

With the recent newborn photography that I have been doing, I realized that my 100mm f/2.8 lens was too much of a telephoto lens to be able to do much with in a confined space. I started looking at different reviews on all of the lenses and decided that indoors with the 50mm f/1.2 would be my best option, so I decided to order it.

I got the lens in the mail this morning and I am excited to use it. With a price tag of over $1400 with taxes, this was a decision that I had put a lot of thought into.

My wife is learning some of the different techniques involved with newborn photography because one thing I have learned through these past few shoots is that it is a team effort for this type of photography. There is a lot of posing and holding that my wife is going to be helping with so that I am able to get different shots.

I took this shot with the 100mm and shot it wide open at f/2.8. One of the benefits of the 50mm f/1.2 is that I would be able to shoot at a much wider aperture and bring in twice the amount of light. This allows me to shoot at lower light, without sacrificing shutter speed. It also gives a much better bokeh and blur to the background.

As you can see, the aperture opens super wide and lets in a ton of light. I am excited to go out and start using this lens. Hopefully I am able to get some pretty cool images to share with everyone here.

Thank you for stopping by and checking out the news of my new lens. You are awesome!
