La Guayaba. Havana, Cuba. Every Saturday races are held here… it’s a gathering for cyclists of all levels who want to test themselves.
9:42 a.m. The racers are at the start line, waiting for the whistle to kick things off. Maybe you’ll spot who took on the job of blowing the whistle in the upcoming shots. 😁
Oh, how I love his jersey, with butterflies and hummingbirds… 😍
And… the whistle goes! With my zoom lens and those awkward shoes I couldn’t move around much, but you can tell there are loads of riders out there. 😁
The start was… mmm… around 9:46. My first shot has that timestamp.
Honestly… I only snapped three shots, and this is the only one worth showing.
🤣
Let me slip this in on the sly… there’s a star I truly admire riding in that front group… haha… So who’s she then? Which one could it be… (Let’s keep going — tricky to figure out, I know… though I reckon I’ve dropped a hint here before… bueee… 😅)
😵 Wow, these riders are flying — 10:12 a.m. and they’re already through the line on lap one.
After asking someone to do the calculations, they told me the cyclists had an average speed of 46 km/h on that first lap... 😱And there I was, experimenting with panning and other “odd” tricks using my old Panasonic Lumix… I didn’t have much success.
Two more shots at 10:13.
Waiting for the riders to hit the line on their second lap, I snapped a few more shots… but this one’s my favourite.
👇
Oops… they eased off a bit on the second lap... 🤣
It’s 10:40 a.m. The calculations show they were averaging 42.8 km/h.
😄 And there she goes! The cyclist I admire… La Guayaba is her playground.
The cyclists in the next photo were already riding easy, as I think they’d finished… not all the women do the full three laps of the circuit.
🤔 They look more like they’ve just come from home than from a race… haha.
10:43 — that is, three minutes after the unbeatable ones had passed… comes another group of brave riders.
Walking in cycling shoes isn’t my thing, so I just chill, snapping a shot here and there… and in the end, I’m waiting to see who takes this round of La Guayaba.
😄
At 11:06 a.m. they crossed the finish line in the following order…
And the photographer decided to leave, not waiting for the others to pass or for the podium ceremony… she was really hungry and… etcetera, haha…
👋
