I want a medal. Something shiny and mine. Something I can hang on my wall or place on a tiny shelf and brag about to my peers.

I want a medal. The proof of hard work and effort. It backs up stories and nods like an old man, smiling and stroking his beard saying, “she gave her all”.

I want a medal. Maybe I was part of the Olympics? Came in third? Or did I win the grand prize? Am I the stunner? Or was I the chaser?

I want a medal!

But maybe, just maybe, I already possess one. The testimonies of lives I’ve touched. The admiration I probably know nothing about.

What if I have a medal? Up there where my mindset has changed and my thoughts are not the same. Where I see myself the winner despite what circumstances say.

What if I have a medal? Deep within me where I have grown past who I used to be and experience has taught me to live, no taking chances, not missing chances.

What if I have a medal? Because when I look into your eyes I feel like a winner. Your smile ignites me from within; setting my soul ablaze and giving me the motivation I need to become someone.

I do have a medal. That medal is Me.
