This is an engagement post, and I need the opinion of the community on this. I joined Hive yesterday and I didn’t really put a lot of thought into my username. I just took a username that reflects my current situation. This is typically what you find on reddit. At the time, I didn’t think it was that much of a deal what my username was. But a friend said something that’s making me start to question if the username I chose could be a disadvantage to my progress on Hive.

Maybe people are more likely to not want to engage or interact with a user with a username @depressedfuckup. Like I told him, I created a new Hive account to start over. I had created a Hive account already around last year. My content quality and niche was poor on that account and I wasn’t consistent on that account. I haven’t opened it in the past 8 months or something, almost a year.

Now, I created this new account on which I plan to and have produce focused quality content and for some reason, I can’t get the thought that my username might hinder my progress on my new account out of my head.

I don’t know about about other people but me, I’m drawn to weird stuff. Maybe other people are repelled by them. A weird username like my own would draw my attention in. I can understand if it does the opposite to other people. If I saw a username like “karmaisacuntybitch”. My curiosity and interest would be hitting the roof and I’d take a peek at their profile. Maybe user B would not give two shits and would much rather go keep scrolling than give their profile 10 seconds of attention.

Do you think a username could sway your decision on whether or not to visit or even better, upvote a piece of content? Why or why
not?
