Somehow, it has become the last day of June, and the year 2023 is now half-way over. I'm not sure how that happened, but here we are!
I spent most of the day outside, pulling weeds and working on landscaping projects in the yard. Tomorrow, I will be spending most of the day inside, working on end-of-quarter bookkeeping and such things. Because... it has to be done.
There's a strange sore patch on the underside of my left forearm where I had a "close encounter" with some stinging nettles... hence, weeding.
I don't really have very much to say about the first half year aside from perhaps that it seemed mostly forgettable. We struggled financially (nothing new), the Cryptosphere struggled and was volatile (nothing new), and our most enjoyable moments these days continue to come from working in the garden.
More than anything, I feel tired.
Tired, in a way I haven't felt tired since about 1999, when I shut down my business of 13 years (in Texas) and made myself slowly ready to move across the country to Washington state. At that time, I felt ready to just pack it in, and I went on to "reinvent myself" for the Nth time.
Of course, I will get up tomorrow and go to work on reaching my goals for the second half of this year, regardless.
For persevering is what we must do!
What Are We "Ready" For?
More than anything else, I'd have to say I'm ready for something to go well, rather than poorly, or even just "mediocrely."
As human beings, I think we eventually reach a point where we grow weary of the sensation that we are going sideways, or perhaps that life feels like eternally paddling upstream. Paddling upstream feels exhausting because you know that the moment you stop paddling, you're invariably going backwards. It's not necessarily that paddling is difficult, so much as living with the knowledge that you can never just stop and rest for a spell.
Maybe that sounds a bit fatalistic... and I will probably "get over myself" soon enough.
Still, it's summer, and that's generally one of my preferred times of the year! I like the long days, and the sunshine, and the fact that we can grow things. That always has given me a sense of hope.
And who knows, maybe the 3rd quarter will turn out really well!
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great weekend... and a great 2nd half to your 2023!
