OK, so perhaps that's a bit of an exaggeration insofar as I am not really all that predisposed to spending endless hours doom scrolling on TikTok or whatever other platforms are out there... in the first place.
However, Mrs. Denmarkguy and I did go out and spend the day at an area Renaissance Faire where we were vendors of our creative ventures and just generally enjoyed a day away from our screens.
What was interesting to note was just how many people attended this event, serving as possible evidence that people are perfectly capable of surviving life and even enjoying themselves without being permanently attached to one of their electronic devices.
When I say "all day", I mean it inasmuch as we left the house at 9:00 in the morning and didn't get back until about 8:30 in the evening, with about two hours on the front end being given over to setting up our vendor booth, and an hour at the end set aside for the disassembly of the booth.
If you've ever tried selling some kind of merchandise or food at an event or festival, you're probably aware that it is a considerable amount of work to get everything up and running.
Aside from the fact that the wind was a lot stiffer than most people would have liked — especially one of our neighbor vendors whose tent collapsed halfway through when the tent anchors pulled right out of the ground — it was really a really nice change of pace.
Those of you who are regular visitors to these pages know that I'm not that much of a "people person," and most of the time I'd just as well spend my time at home, but it is pretty fun to be out and to put your creative endeavors in front of other people.
Of course, part of the fun of Renaissance fairs is that a lot of the attendees really get into the whole dressing up for the occasion, and that was certainly no exception here.
As far as the event being much of a financial success goes I'm sad to say that it wasn't, but it was definitely good in terms of getting a diversion and talking to some interesting people. Renaissance Fair goers are (most of the time) not really a shopping crowd unless you're selling giant smoked turkey legs or unusual period clothing.
On the upside, the event was a success for The Old Gray Muzzle project, the benefitting charity. It's an organization specializing in rehoming senior dogs surrendered to shelters when their owners pass away, or their changing life circumstances preclude them having a dog, like many nursing homes. Appropriately $10,000 was raised for the senior dogs, which was excellent!
We did manage to catch up with some friends we hadn't seen in a while including an artist who used to show her work with us, back when we had our brick-and-mortar gallery here in town.
Our son from Seattle even came out and hung out with us for a while... in addition to being a great help in both setting up and taking down fixtures and inventory.
Tomorrow, life resumes its normal rhythm, including unpacking everything. But — for now — we sleep!
