Further to the by now long standing discussion that involves:

"It's STEEM, not STEEMIT!"

and

"People need to learn that they are creating content on STEEM not STEEMIT!"

and other issues that seems to (mostly) have left the vast majority of the community (save for the handful of developers and blockchainiacs who are ostensibly "sailing" this ship...) in a state of some confusion... why is THIS what I see at the top left corner of my screen, even after the relatively recent division of the "wallet" feature" from the "content" feature:

"Yeah, but you shouldn't be using THAT interface..."

Whereas I am sort of done with this entire discussion hairsplitting semantics... the thing I am less done with is the irony of how senior community members and developers belabor the very real issue of how we are going to not only build this platform but retain those who join as ongoing active members...

... the real answer to which is "Make this all very very simple!"

With all due respect, one of the things that really works about Facebook is that everything is RIGHT there, in one place. Splitting things into 43 subsections and different — but separate — apps to make the most of the user experience... is just not simplification!!! And it's not "making the most" of the user experience...

And thus is counterproductive, if the objective is to attract more people.

And Then, We Poison the Well...

And there's a secondary effect there: It becomes really hard to "sell" the idea that this is an awesome place to create content, so then the "fallback" sales pitch becomes

"MAKE MONEY!!!

Which is incredibly problematic because of the extended implications for the quality of user that attracts.

In the shortest possible explanation, you attract users whose primary motivation is to MAKE MONEY, not to create content, invest in an online identity, post in a censorship resistant environment or any of the myriad more sustainable reasons to be part of this gig.

And so, we end up with the question/sad reflection expressed with the recent #palnet airdrop:

"It's a shame so many just seem to be collecting the airdrop tokens and then immediately dumping them..."

A shame it may be, but it also makes perfect sense:

When someone is drawn to something to "make money," they are not participating for sustainability's sake, or to build anything, they are just looking to put some cha-ching in their pockets right now.

Not claiming I have any brilliant solutions here, just shaking my head at the flawed logic that seems — at least to me — to be at the root of so many of our "issues" here.
