This past weekend, Mrs. Denmarkguy and I were busy as "vendors" at a local arts, crafts and spirituality festival.
I won't go into a lot of detail, but the long and short of it is that it's part of the ongoing process of "building our lives" in a way that largely operates outside the "system" that drives the majority of the world. Much of that effort revolves around developing and building our creative projects so that we can live with a measure of security and comfort, and not have to have "real jobs," as some would call it.
Where will the path take us?
The whole "Pandemic Circus" was definitely a setback to our long-term plans, since they revolves substantially around being able to attend these fairs and events to sell the items we create... we only just "picked up the trail" we let go of in December 2019, and have now participated in three events since midsummer.
Anyway, during some of the slower periods, I had time to just sit and consider the importance of patience in the process of creating major life and lifestyle changes.
Frequently, people will be aware that they want change to happen, and they also have a pretty good sense of how those changes are going to happen... but we sometimes forget to program in the time frame for what we are undertaking.
What's at the end of YOUR rainbow?
I suppose we might attribute it to our "instant gratification culture," but a lot of folks sadly end up effectuating very few of the changes they desire because they — quite simply — lack the patience to see their plans through. And when "external setbacks" come along? They might quit, rather than just be patient and stick to their plans.
Our plans have for a long time been to work towards a point where we can fully sustain ourselves via our art projects, our small online collectibles businesses, our writing and me taking occasional gigs as a book editor.
Naturally, Hive is part of that picture, as a (hopefully!) gradually increasing source of revenue from both blogging, as well as from curation and engagement.
I was always well aware that it could take ten years or more to reach a point where my artwork has been publicized and distributed widely enough for any income stream to have become reasonably stable and sustainable... and still working on that.
Hive is also a "game of patience" because it's not about your rewards on any given day, but about how every action you take ends up adding a tiny bit to your influence and income, day after day.
The key is being able and willing to stay with it and just watch your HivePower balance build, even if it's a very slow process. I always like to think of the analogy that a dripping water faucet seems like "almost nothing," but if you leave a bucket under that dripping faucet and come back at the end of a week, chances are that the bucket is full to overflowing!
However, it takes a particular mindset and personality to just stay with it, no matter what... as we often see around here with people vanishing into thin air, every time the price of the Hive token starts to move downwards.
Similarly, artists grow disgruntled and quit when there's a downturn in how well their art is being received... I ended up largely missing two years in my own development plans, due to Covid taking face-to-face art events "off the map" from early 2020 till summer 2022.
Just have to keep moving forward... with patience!
