It is 10:09pm here on the US West Coast, as I start typing these words. It's a rainy and blustery night here in western Washington; only a very few brave souls are out there, shooting fireworks into the murk.
Mrs. Denmarkguy and I are home for the night; we have long had cats and dogs in the house, and since we're not exactly "party people," we choose to stay at home on New Year's Eve to help keep the furry ones from freaking out from the fireworks.
Tomorrow, We Will Have Entered "The Twenties!"
It's not only a new year, we stand at the threshold of a new decade!
What will it hold, I wonder? The 1920's were a boom time in many places, although the decade ended badly with The Great Depression. They were known as "The Roaring 20's."
I'm actually old enough to have had grandparents who were adults in the 1920's, and I can remember some of the stories they told; stories (mostly) of tremendous change and technological progress.

I wonder what will happen in the 2020's... what will become "commonplace" that is currently a bit strange and esoteric? Will borders between nations largely disappear... or will we all become more nationalistic? Will our mobile devices all become implanted in our ears; in our brains? Will the kind of "fly-by-wire" technology that's currently used in Air Force jets become common technology in our personal transportation? Will the internal combustion engine become as obsolete as the rotary telephone?
Just a couple of weeks ago, the first all-electric commercial airliner had its inaugural flight in nearby Vancouver, BC... you might say, a major "disruption" to the way we think about aircraft.
What else will be see in the decade ahead?

I Have Always Been a Bit of a Futurist...
Some folks find comfort in keeping things the way they are... in "conserving" the old ways of doing things. I have always had my eyes on the future, looking with wonder at the ways things change.
At times, I wonder how our world would look if all the money spent on military, weapons and wars had instead been spent on developing space travel and space exploration. How far would we have gotten? Would we long since have colonized Mars? Would we already have huge orbiting habitats?
But I am not going to linger here for long; I just wanted to send a quick shoutout and "Happy New Year" to everyone in Steemlandia! Hope you are celebrating well, wherever you may be!
Thanks for reading, and see you next year!
