There is usually some truth behind any myth. Mythological stories and their creatures always have a place of origin. Whether they were spawned by someone's imagination sparked by something they may have witnessed or even a tale passed down and embellished with each telling, we are fascinated with them.
Even I enjoy a good story containing a healthy amount of dragons, elves, fairies, trolls, or unicorns. I recently read an article in a science journal about an unusual finding in Kazakhstan. There they found the skull of a creature with a sizable horn. This extinct animal known as the Siberian Unicorn, roamed the Earth and very possibly lived amongst humans a mere 29,000 years ago.
They estimate the Siberian Unicorn was considerably more burly and stout than our familiar mythological creature we have become accustomed to, with shoulders at 6 feet high, around 15 feet in length and weighing roughly 9000 pounds. Of course, it's hard to say how they gathered that information from basically a skull, but hey that's science for you. Since they migrated to the Siberian region, they are thought to have been quite heavily built similar to perhaps a rhinoceros and well insulated with more hair as the wholly mammoth would have been.
Naturally this leads me to wonder about various other legends and myths and his much of the truth we actually know. The world around us is and endless mystery. My mind is constantly scavenging to pick up pieces to this vast puzzle. Never let the flame of your imagination die.
