I discovered that one of Europe's most important doll museums is in Italy!
Indeed, Angera Castle houses a collection of over a thousand pieces.
The museum was made possible thanks to a donation from Princess Bona Borromeo, a passionate collector.

Ho scoperto che uno dei musei più importanti d’Europa dedicati alle bambole si trova in Italia!
Infatti, il Castello di Angera ospita questa collezione di oltre mille pezzi.
Il museo è stato possibile grazie alla donazione della principessa Bona Borromeo, un’appassionata collezionista.
The exhibition unfolds through several rooms on several levels of the fortress and traces the evolution of dolls from the 18th to the 20th century.
For example, you can find period dolls made from wax, papier-mâché, and wood, crafted by the great French and German manufacturers of the 19th century.
There are also miniature clothes and accessories, hand-sewn with the same sartorial attention as those used for adults.
Il percorso espositivo si snoda attraverso diverse sale dispose su più piano della fortezza e ripercorre l’evoluzione della bambola dal 700 fino al 900.
Ad esempio, si possono trovare bambole d’epoca create con cera, cartapesta, legno, realizzate dalle grandi manifatture francesi e tedesche dell’800.
Sono presenti anche vestiti e accessori in miniatura, cuciti a mano con la stessa attenzione sartoriale che si utilizzava per gli adulti.
The museum also houses mechanical and automatic toys, the ancestors of modern industrial toys, which are battery-operated.
The museum is not only aesthetically pleasing; it also tells the story and customs of an era. It helps us understand how childhood changed over the centuries.
It was truly an interesting visit!
Il museo ospita anche giocattoli meccanici e automatici, gli antenati dei giocattoli industriali del mondo moderno, che funzionano a pile.
Il museo non ha un valore soltanto estetico, ma racconta la storia e il costume di un’epoca. Fa capire come cambiava l’infanzia nel corso dei secoli.
