10 June 2026, Freewriters Community Daily Writing Prompt Day 3130: gregarious imp
“I am so glad Ludlow is selling his company to his cousin and his workers, because I am so tired of that man and his ever-growing family – how does he have an eighth child now? I am so tired of Ludlows!”
George Grenson of Grenson Glass was trying to keep his company alive through the pandemic and was trying to make adjustments in product to make that happen … but Capt. R.E. Ludlow of the Ludlow Bubbly called back every time: “Mr. Grenson, this is not what we contracted with you for.” And he came with measurements about weight, volume, color, the thickness or thinness of the rim and how it fit with the cap, the thickness or thinness of the cap – there was going to be no cutting corners to within at least the 95th percentile on the bottles that the Ludlow Bubbly went into.
But while Robert Edward Ludlow Sr. was annoying …
“Why and how is there a Robert Edward Ludlow III, that overly gregarious imp that is that man's baby grandson – why and how?”
Five-year-old Mr. Robert Edward Ludlow III had put Grenson Glass on blast in his little suit and mask, because his grandfather and adoptive father had needed to run him by the clinic from a bigger-than-average cut and swung by Grenson Glass on the way back to Tinyville to actually take the worst bottle of the latest lot back and show Mr. Grenson what simply was not right. Owing to the immense bass resonance of Capt. Ludlow's voice, it was soon enough known he was at the plant, and Uppity Foolery Watch had a representative get close because Ludlows made good news.
Lil' Robert Ludlow never disappointed … the little blond boy, patiently waiting for his grandfather to finish talking to Mr. Grenson, smiled real big and waved at everyone passing by in addition to the camera, and few people who liked children could resist stopping and saying hi. But, finally, as the adult conversation wound down, he put his own two cents in.”
“Yeah, because we make quality soda and we gotta have a quality bottle because we are quality people because we are Ludlows – now we don't know your family yet, Mr. Grenson, but, this here ain't it.”
“Robert,” the captain gently scolded, “adult conversation is adult conversation! Silence!”
But the damage was done – Uppity Foolery Watch loved it, and Mr. Grenson's other clients started paying attention.
“I'm so tired of Ludlows – and half of my workers are still talking about how cute the little imp is who nearly has us going out of business because nobody is going to cut us any production slack! I'm so tired of Ludlows! I'm so tired!”
