The work of a fashion designer is not only to measure, cut and join fabrics to make a dress. It is far beyond that and infact the aforementioned is just the tip of the iceberg. There are other little but important steps to be taken when a dress is completely made and this has to do with finishing and packaging. The way you present your work to your customers is very key. This is what will speak for your brand when you are not there to speak or defend your work.

It is very important to master the art of giving the dresses you make a good press when you are done sewing. You will pay attention to all seams and any bulgings or joinings in the dress. You will also iron every part of the dress as detailed as possible to get rid of any form of wrinkles.

This not only makes your work presentable to your clients but it makes your work very neat and structured the way you want it. There are times depending on the amount of dresses I want to finish and package, I may spend the whole day doing the finishing and packaging only. It is not something that is done in a rush if you want a maximum result.

The style of the dress, the thickness or lightness of the fabrics, among others determines the extent to which you will pay attention to the finishing touches. If the style of the dress is complicated like dresses made with lace, George, damask fabrics you really need to give the dress a good press because the fabrics have a thick texture. For the light fabrics you just need little or no serious pressing.

Also, the ones that needs to be hemmed using hemming gum should also be adequately attended to at this time that you are doing your general finishing. The sleeves and the bottom should be paid extra attention. If there are some threads flying around on the dress be sure to trim them among others for a clean and polished smooth look.

With all the above in place you can carefully fold the dresses in your packaging bag before putting in your branded bag. If you don't have a branded bag you should at least have a packaging bag to put the dresses.
