This is a look at an image progression for an illustration job I've just wrapped up. The cue was around self-harm and substance abuse. I got the perspective wrong but in the end, I think it turned out pretty good.
Started out with a rough thumbnail as always, which was perhaps a little too obvious and potentially triggering.
Going for more subtlety here which in the end was too subtle.
And then this one which did the trick.
So then it's just a matter of hours and hours of inking, colouring, doing fixes to perspective, lighting, and effects.Easy!
