The sunshine has been pretty much unbroken all summer. That is great for berrries and the hedgerows are full of blackberries and other lovely fruit.
One berry which deserves a mention is the sloe berry. Not something you would pick and eat though! 😝🤢. They are very bitter to taste raw, but great for home made wine, or even better to make something called sloe gin.
I made some sloe gin years ago and it turned out very good indeed. All you need is one bottle of gin, any plain gin will do, some sugar, and the berries. Just wash and prick each berry with a pin and drop them into a suitable container with a lid. Add the sugar and gin. Leave for a few months so that the flavour and colour of the berries infuses into the gin.
The colour of the final liquor is amazing. The taste is even better! 😛🍷
