Super Mario Bros 3 - World 8 - random turtles and flying battleship

The first assignment is to pass the 5 crates that will randomly capture Mario into fighting mini-boss. I don't remember I played with this before, or may be I was relying on my brother to helped me when I was a little younger, which I have no idea how to pass these difficult mini-boss.

The flying ship was way too difficult to jump. I'm sure there's a sequence by waiting to a point where the platform float higher or drop lower, so Mario can jump to a lower platform. I've committed suicide several times and decided to go for the Powered up feather and fly it through the entire episode. Apologize on the boringness.
