Artificial Intelligence (AI) conversations have been one of the common and prevalent ones in present day and time. As a tool born from technological developments and advancements, it sure has the interest of many, and the concern of many others as well. The conversations on AI are wide, ranging from the threat to jobs, the help it offers, future potentials for work and life, effects on human creativity, and the concern about originality and authenticity.
Amidst the embrace and acceptance of AI as a tool not just now but in the future, some concerns are raised about it. There's the concern that it's hampering and limiting humans in their creativity. AI has made it easier to generate something instantly that would take a creative process, and so many people resort to using it, dampening their creative prowess and abilities all along. AI is a great help we can say, but with this critical concern.
If that's considered a problem and viewed as a concern, then wait till it gets to the matter of originality and authenticity. In particular, how AI can be used to tell and sell a lie. This is probably, but in a more certain way, the danger and most concerning issue about AI. One that makes its label as an enemy convincing enough. I mean, I wouldn't want to see pictures or videos of me lying around, especially when my face or features have been distorted for some joke, propaganda, and whatever I would never even do.
When this concern is considered and examined, it makes a compelling argument for why AI could be a problem to the world today, despite the value and help it offers in different skills, fields of work and facets of life. However, if we look critically into this matter and assess the issue, we'd see on the backend the irresponsible and wrong human actions that lead to this concern. Hence, it raises a counterargument; humans might just be the problem.
If there's one thing we must have noticed with virtually every technological development, humans have managed to abuse it. The very things meant to help us have been thwarted and used for questionable and wrong purposes other than what they were actually meant for. This has been the story through time, and AI just walked right into that, probably in a more concerning way because of its abilities and the things it could do.
As humans, we must learn to take accountability for our wrongs. If we decide to label every innovation meant to help us as an “enemy” or so, then we wouldn't enjoy the benefits of technology. Though some of the innovations are questionable and maybe are indeed an enemy. But, we also owe it as humans to be responsible and accept the good developments technology has brought without abusing it, and ultimately hurting others and even ourselves.
It's not to say that AI doesn't have a fair share of the blame to apportion to it. I've read some disturbing things AI has caused. So, maybe it's right to point out the excesses and concerns which can be fixed from its end, and demand some stricter regulations. The bulk of the work however remains with us as humans; to be decent and responsible enough to use AI rightly, properly and positively, because it's here to stay. This way, AI becomes a tool, not an enemy.
