I've been to Japan on two occasions, and I traveled to many different places throughout Japan. I stayed in big crowded cities, and in the rural countryside. I saw Japan for what it really is. And if I had to describe all of it with just a few photos, I think these pictures would suit it well.
Most Japanese people live in high-rise apartment buildings. This photo was taken in the city of Kobe (神戸) near Osaka.
You like anime? Japan is where it all comes from. And (surprise!) its not imported, so its cheaper.
In Japan, a nerd can truly be a nerd. They have more manga (comic books) than you've ever seen in your whole life.
The vending machines are amazing. And they are everywhere. They have hot drinks, cold drinks, snacks, ramen, etc.
Japan has a lot of natural beauty. And you don't have to look far to find it.
If you're lucky, you might spot a few Geisha or Maiko girls walking down the streets of old town Kyoto. japan has a rich cultural history and they try to preserve it.
Most Japanese are either Buddhist or Shinto, and you will see many temples. This is the Todaiji (東大寺), the Great Buddha Hall, in Nara Prefecture.
Everything is "kawaii" cute. And cute is better than sexy.
Plastic food is on display outside of all nice restaurants. I love Japanese food. Very subtle flavors and simple recipes, but it is mostly healthy and delightful.
Japanese hospitality is fantastic. I visited a family's home, and this is the spread that they had on the table when I arrived. It was SO delicious.
In big cities, even the smallest alleys will have really cool stores and restaurants.
You will see Japanese schoolgirls everywhere. They are mostly shy, but I snapped a photo anyway.
More photos from Japan coming soon.
